Job overview

The Facilities department at Dorset County Hospital are excited to announce that we are looking for Security Officers to join our brand new team providing a 24/7 Security Service throughout the hospital.

A background in Security is desirable but not essential as full training in security within a health care setting will be given.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a security presence throughout all areas of the hospital in order to deliver a polite, efficient, and compassionate service to patients, visitors and staff at all times.
  •  Provide a first line quick and immediate response to distressed, violent and aggressive persons (including mental health patients) within the hospital, calming individuals using verbal and non verbal communication skills, where necessary physically restraining and escorting persons from site in order to maintain a safe environment within the hospital.
  • Appropriately operate CCTV in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Trust license for the detection and prevention of crime, where required.
  • To undertake checks on every shift to ensure that all CCTV equipment is fully operational and that any faults are reported immediately to the Facilities department by email or phone.
  • Undertake physical patrols of the hospital site in line with schedule and in order to provide a security presence and maintain a secure environment including checking closure departments.
  • Undertake external patrols to all areas of the Hospital site including car parking areas and outlying buildings ensuring that your presence is noticeable.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • GCSE or Similar for writing English Language
  • To have, or be willing to, undertake appropriate training courses to obtain relevant

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of working to legislative compliance
  • General Knowledge of training in Health & Safety at Work
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Experience of working on Security

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, require a professional and sympathetic approach to people
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally with a wide range of people.
  • To have the mental ability and confidence to make effective decisions whilst working in pressured, stressful and difficult situations
  • Ability to work under pressure often unsupervised and prioritise your duties
Desirable criteria
  • Good IT skills, MS Office Suite, and other related FM software systems
  • Familiar with or willing to undertake training in CCTV operation, intruder alarm systems, radio communication skills
  • Adopts a team orientated approach, able to work across organisation boundaries and interested and supportive of the work of colleagues.
