An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an experienced and supportive team in Poole, Dorset. We are looking for a part time Medical Secretary  to join Poole Community Mental Health Team, Older Persons based at Alderney Hospital.

This is a permanent part time post of 22.5 hours.

The Service provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment and support for adults aged 65 + who have a severe and enduring mental health illness and/or organic illness.

The service consists of an integrated multi disciplinary team of health and social care staff including Community Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Medical Staff, Support Time Recovery Workers, Occupational Therapist, Psychology and administration staff.

A knowledge of Mental Health Services would be an advantage as would a working knowledge of our in house system RIO, although full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

 

Main duties of the job

To provide a proactive approach in supporting the Consultant Psychiatrist in carrying out their role including high quality secretarial support to the Consultant, their Team of medical staff and the wider Community Mental Health Team. Contact with patients and carers via the telephone is an important part of the role and providing a professional and courteous service.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Medical Secretary to support our team. Your role will be to provide comprehensive, effective and confidential secretarial and administrative service. 

We need all applicants to have comprehensive audiotyping experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Training

Essential criteria
  • GCSE level English Language of equivalent
  • To show understanding of patient confidentiality
  • Well developed skills in communicating effectively with patients, carers and other professionals within and outside of the NHS
  • RSA 3 or equivalent keyboard skills; Audio typing and word processing
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL
  • Knowledge of NHS organisation and protocols
  • Management of diaries on outlook

Job Specific Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of using word processing, spreadsheet, database and or presentation software to RSA 2/3 or equivalent
  • Experience of using an electronic patient record system

Information Technology/Resources

Essential criteria
  • Able to take and transcribe formal minutes to a high standard
  • Experience of using a variety of IT systems

Personal Qualities/Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to use own initiative, work to deadlines and be flexible.
