Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking Catering Assistant to join our friendly dedicated catering team at St Anns Hospital although you may be required to work at other local sites on occasion.

Catering Assistants within the hospital have a key role in maintaining a high standard of meal provision to patients and make a valuable contribution in the wider care team that supports patients during their time in hospital. You should have good organisational and communication skills, be flexible in your approach to work whilst demonstrating an ability to work using your own initiative and work as part of a team.

The successful applicant will be knowledgeable in hospital cleaning processes and have an awareness and understanding of Infection Prevention Control, Food Hygiene and COSHH.

37.5 hours week Monday to Friday, 6.30am to 2.30pm with 30 min break.  May include some weekend and bank holiday work.

This role may also includes driving the work van  to other units to transport  the food .   

This is a lovely team working environment with good benefits with 27 days annual leave plus BH and sick pay.

Employment in this post requires a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Main duties of the job

There is an opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to join our team.  You will be based at our St Anns Hospital site, and will be responsible for washing up, cleaning, food preparation and at times working in the hospital restaurant serving food plus refiling vending machines in and off site.  

As a Catering Assistant you will help the chef keep the kitchen clean and tidy and responsible for washing up. 

At times will also be required to cover the staff dining room when the dining room catering assistant is off.

Duties will be interesting and varied to include,

Refilling vending machines on site and off site

Preparing sandwiches and assisting in preparation of patient meals

Ensuring the kitchen is kept to a high standard of cleanliness

Washing up cooking pots, trays and ensuring hot food trollies are cleaned when they are returned after meals

Getting rid of and recording the kitchen waste and packaging into large bins

When required serving in the hospital restaurant to both staff and member of the public.
