Job overview

Here at the University Hospitals Dorset , we are looking for a highly diligent conscientious professional to work as a Lead Aseptic Technician in the Aseptic Preparation Unit in Poole Hospital.

This is an exciting innovative role for a registered pharmacy technician a  to be imbedded within our UHD technical services team to assist the Accountable Pharmacists in managing the  pharmacy  team to support the delivery of SACT for Cancer Services within UHD which is produced in the unlicensed aseptic preparation unit APU in Poole Hospital. We are looking for a highly skilled pharmacy professional  with significant experience working in aseptic services and  quality assurance or a manufacturing GMP environment. 

The post holder will work alongside a team of pharmacy professionals to meet the quality and compliance demands of this diverse service. The role will provide technical support and advice, conduct audits and drive quality improvements and be able to work as a product approver to release products prepared in APU.

The post holder will be a member of the Senior Aseptic Management Team and will have direct responsibility for managing a team of over 20 technicians, SMT's and ATO's.

The post is part-time job share (22.5 hours per week). Expected weekend shifts of 1 in 5 Sunday, and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Lead Aseptic Technician will play a key role in the preparation, quality control, and safe dispensing of cytotoxic and Immunotherapy agents prepared in the Aseptic Unit in Poole. 

This role requires extensive technical knowledge in Aseptic preparation of injectable cytotoxic and immunotherapy agents . Adherence to regulatory standards, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and efficacy of aseptic products. The technician will lead daily operations in the Aseptic Preparation Unit, support the development and implementation of QMS, and provide mentorship to junior staff.

The post holder will be responsible for managing the human resources of the technical team within aseptic services.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC Applied Science & NVQ3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacy Technician with the GPHC
  • Accredited Product Approver & Accredited Pre and In Process Checker
  • Management qualification NVQ level 5 or equivalent experience
  • Good Clinical Practice for clinical trials.
Desirable criteria
  • Specialised knowledge of H&S, risk assessment and management, IOSHH managing safely or equivalent
  • Member of Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK/ BOPA

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Member of Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK/ BOPA
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing an aseptic preparation unit.
  • Project / Audit work /Procedure development/Managing change
  • Experience in procedure writing within aseptic unit
Desirable criteria
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Knowledge of Mosaiq, JAC and the hospital pharmacy computer syste
  • Teaching / coaching experience.

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Completion of NHS aseptic training and development accreditation.
  • Good computer skills (excel/word/power point).
  • Understanding the principles of stock control systems / supply and security processes
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of standard chemotherapy regimens

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice, COSHH regulations and safe handling of cytotoxic drugs to national and Local guidelines
  • Good knowledge of education and continuous professional development strategies
  • Aware of relevant HR policies
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Codes of Practice / Customer Care / NHS plan for Pharmacy
