Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy ECP

Band 7 (Can offer as a band 6-7 development role)

As University Hospitals Dorset we are a three site acute trust with ‘university hospital’ status through our partnership with Bournemouth University, working with an annual budget of £730m.

We offer highly regarded health services, employing some 10,000 staff. Our ambitious £500m transformation programme is well on the way to delivering state-of-the-art facilities over the next two years to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the populations we serve.

In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over seven miles of sandy beaches you’ll find inspirational opportunities to achieve your perfect work/life balance. With the New Forest and the Purbecks on our doorstep, we’re also less than three hours from London by road or train. The thriving towns of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch give way to idyllic villages and unspoilt landscapes just minutes from our hospitals.

We believe that having a diverse workforce, and allowing people to be themselves, is essential in ensuring we offer an inclusive, welcoming and productive place to work.

We especially welcome applications from minority groups in the community who may be underrepresented in our workforce.

At UHD our active staff network groups are the Women's Network, Black Asian Minority Ethnic Group (BAME), Pride Network, European (EU), Pro Ability Staff Network, and the Armed Forces Support Group.

As a Trust we are proudly signed up to the Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant guaranteed interview schemes.

We are aware that some candidates may choose to use AI tools to support the preparation of their application. While this is not discouraged, we kindly remind applicants that submissions should remain an honest and accurate representation of your own experience and suitability. Personal integrity is an important part of the recruitment process.

Job overview

Are you experienced in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) assessment skills?

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Oncology team.  Do you want to join University Hospitals Dorset at an exciting time of transformation and service expansion?  If so, this post could be for you.

We are seeking to appoint an Enhanced Clinical Practitioner (ECP) that has experience within SACT assessment, who will work within the SACT ACP/ECP team, alongside oncology clinicians, the management team, and other colleagues in the Trust to deliver the Oncology nurse-led SACT service, underpinned by evidence-based practice. We are a dedicated team of nurse practitioners who can manage patients on SACT supporting several oncology teams, and possibly 2-3 tumour sites each.

We are looking for nurses who have experience of working autonomously in a hospital setting and running nurse led clinics. Ideally you would have completed your history taking, physical assessment, diagnostics and non-medical prescribing course however we would not exclude aspiring nurses who would like to be part of this team.

As a trainee you could start as a Band 6 and be supported to complete these courses as part of your pathway.

Applicants who can demonstrate that they already meet the required competencies may be offered a Band 7 contract upon appointment.

Base Location: Cross site working – at both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals

Interview Date: Monday 6th July AM

Main duties of the job

The Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) ECP will form part of the oncology multi-professional team whose aim is to deliver and co-ordinate expert patient assessment and holistic care to patients with an oncology diagnosis being treated with SACT, their families and the wider MDT.

  • To contribute to safe and effective patient care by incorporating the use of non-medical prescribing competencies in relation to oncology patients in accordance with national guidelines, evidence-based practice, and local Trust policies. You will exercise levels of judgement, discretion, and decision-making in treatment of SACT.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising, and utilising research to promote best practice in everyday practice as appropriate.
  •  Participate in education and training of SACT.
  • Work across organisations to promote cancer care to ensure an integrated approach to care management between localities, organisations, and care agencies.

As the role evolves there may be opportunities to be principal nursing investigators on trials, providing education to both staff and patients as well as supporting other areas of oncology at both sites.

The SACT ECP will form part of the oncology multi-professional team whose aim is to assess oncology patients for their SACT treatments. The ECP will provide holistic care and advice for patients. You will be a Registered Nurse with, or working towards, a master’s qualification or equivalent experience. Depending on your experience, you may be expected to study towards the enhanced clinical practitioner qualification, by undertaking the apprenticeship course and non-medical prescribing module.  You will need to have a track record of strong collaborative working, be able to build excellent relationships, and can innovate and be a key decision maker.
