Job overview

Are you an established Advanced Clinical Practitioner with a passion for podiatry? We are looking for a skilled ACP to join our dynamic team of advanced practitioners in our Podiatry Service. The role is to cover across PAN Dorset working out of Hospital sites such DCH, DHC & UHD. The majority of the time you will be supporting a Consultant in the East based in Bournemouth with some supporting function to the community team within the West of Dorset.

You will be experienced and confident with wound care management. You will have a keen interest for podiatry and be comfortable with a high degree of clinical risk taking whilst thinking outside of the box. Being a qualified prescriber would be desirable however not essential for the role. In return you will have access to our network of ACP’s who are available to support you. The Trust is also implementing a programme of comprehensive changes relating to advance practice including supervision and ongoing development. Career progression could be supported in line with the current role or service development

The ACP post is a full-time role of 37.5 hours. Monday to Friday. We welcome part time applications, minimum of 30 hours. The role is to cover PAN Dorset, we can be flexible with how these hours are met and support hybrid working. This can be discussed further at interview. This post covers Dorset wide, being a driver is essential for this post. 

Main duties of the job

 Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of multi-disciplinary wound care management of the at risk  foot and apply this knowledge to inform holistic assessment and care planning and contribute to the delivery and coordination of evidence-based treatment approaches in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and contribute to physical health audits, quality improvement initiatives, and service evaluation to ensure safe, effective, and responsive care delivery.

To undertake comprehensive specialist holistic assessment of patients and carers where needs are highly complex. This will involve planning, implementing and evaluating the care delivery according to changing healthcare needs.

Utilise advanced clinical skills in assessment and/or formulate a diagnosis and/or treatment plan.

You will work as part of a multi-professional team, you will practice autonomously, whilst being accountable and self-directed in line with the relevant code of professional conduct.

To develop and implement the highest quality innovative clinical practice.  Be proactive in clinical decision making, underpinned by the highest level of theoretical and practical knowledge and be able to demonstrate improved patient care outcomes.

Person specification

Knowledge, Skills and Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered health practitioner with membership of relevant professional body
  • MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent route to Advanced Clinical Practice with evidence of meeting the nationally agreed capabilities (ie. PG Dip 120 credits in advanced clinical practice and successful completion of approved support portfolio route to advanced clinical practice)
  • Clear and demonstrable evidence of advanced, autonomous practice in the management of patients / service users
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development through an advanced clinical practice portfolio demonstrating advanced level practice across the four pillars of clinical practice, education, leadership and research

Job Specific Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a provider organisation and within a relevant specialty as Registered Practitioner Band 7 level.
  • Demonstrates highly developed expertise and knowledge underpinned by theory acquired through CPD in relation to clinical assessment, treatment and evaluation
  • Evidence of effective leadership and risk management skills
  • Able to demonstrate advanced skills for assessing and interpreting complex client conditions, comparing a range of options and taking appropriate action
  • Able to demonstrate innovation and effective use of resources

Managerial/Supervisory Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of proactive involvement in the supervision and development of members of the multi-disciplinary team and able to demonstrate changes of practice through these
  • Able to undertake clinical supervision and systematic peer caseload review of colleagues on an individual or group basis and support aspiring and trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners through supervisory roles

Information Technology/Resources

Essential criteria
  • Able to analyse data and produce reports using Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Confident in the use of computer systems, spread sheets, databases, data collection and coordination, word processing and report writing.

Personal Qualities/Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation, and where there may be barriers, with staff, patient/service users, visitors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information which may require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
  • Able to analyse and assess situations and to interpret potentially conflicting situations and determine appropriate action, where there is a range of options and judgement is required.
  • Inquisitive and eager to learn, asks questions and responds positively to change in practice/procedure. Seeks ways to improve self and others.
