Job overview

Part time band 3 rehabilitation assistant role based at the Rowan Rehab Unit in Sherborne, delivering a range of therapy interventions supported by Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists. 

Main duties of the job

The senior therapy assistant will work under the supervision of a qualified Therapist contributing to assessment and treatment programmes within an episode of care. This will mostly be working with patients with a stroke and neuro diagnosis.

The senior therapy assistant will carry a clinical caseload delegated by a 
qualified member of staff; in addition, they will work with qualified staff to assist in the management of their caseload. This will include working in a wide variety of settings including on the ward, in patients' homes or in local community.

The post holder will assist in the administration and clerical duties for the team and Department.

The post holder may be required to work at any of the sites within the Trust.

The post holder will be required to work on a Saturday rota alongside a qualified therapist.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Good level of education to GCSE Level, including Maths & English (Grade C or above).
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level in healthcare or be willing to work towards.
  • To be able to drive a car.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience (minimum 1 year) of working as a therapy/nursing assistant or similar post
  • Experience of working with direct contact with the public.

SKILLS ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • To have ability to work on own initiative and to be confident to work without direct supervision.
  • To have ability to learn new skills to deliver patient care as instructed by qualified members of staff
  • To be able to work within the multidisciplinary team.
  • To be able to prioritise own workload.
  • To be aware of own limitations.
Desirable criteria
  • To partake in data collection.
  • Experience with IT systems
  • Ability to complete allocated projects and meet deadlines.
