Estates Maintenance Worker

Job overview
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, flexible, and conscientious Maintenance Worker to join the service delivery team.
The vacancy will be working in the conurbation of East and West Dorset including Poole, Bournemouth, Wimborne, Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport and up to Sherborne.
As a full-time Maintenance Worker, you would be part of 50 strong team delivering electrical, mechanical, and building maintenance services in all our premises across Dorset. These include minor injury units, inpatient hospitals, community clinics and offices.
The successful applicants will need to hold and maintain a full UK driving license and will be provided with a trust vehicle (tracked 24/7 and for work use only).
The Maintenance Worker post includes a Recruitment and Retention Premium, and on-call allowance, as well as enhanced pay for over-time working, flexible working opportunities and entry to the NHS pension scheme. Uniform, all personal protective clothing, and basic hand tools are also provided.
This post is part of the Facilities & Estates Service that Dorset Healthcare may transfer to an NHS wholly owned subsidiary company, from November 2025 or later. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing, expanding, organisation with a strong commitment to NHS values and putting patients first. The NHS wholly owned subsidiary will continue to offer NHS Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, including NHS pensions, to staff who transfer as well as new staff it recruits itself.
Main duties of the job
Applications from candidates that require current Healthcare worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible to apply for this position.
There will be training and mentoring opportunities for developing the skills required in the role, some of which will require overnight attendance at various training venues.
Maintenance Workers need to be flexible in their approach and be able to work as part of a team, prepared to adjust and change plans at short notice and react to incidents as they occur in a calm, caring and supportive manner. Maintenance Workers may also be required at times of high demand, to work over-time at short notice.
As a Maintenance Worker you will need to possess good communication skills both written and verbal, have good IT skills, and be able to participate in an out of hours on-call service.
To undertake routine statutory and mandatory planned preventative and reactive maintenance activities across all Trust sites
Work alongside and provide immediate support to your operational colleagues which include electricians, mechanical fitters, carpenters and building operatives, as well as clinical staff and managers.
Liaising with contractors.
Be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger and avoid injury and damage to equipment.

- Demonstrable experience in a healthcare maintenance or equivalent service in a healthcare environment

Knowledge, skills, and training
Essential criteria
- Completed a relevant recognized Maintenance training scheme or an appropriate level City & Guilds certificate / NVQ in Construction or demonstrate equivalent level of experience
- Have a sound understanding of Building and/or Civil engineering to carry out a range of basic maintenance tasks.
- Good standard of general education, GCSE grade C or above
