The Durham and Darlington CAMHS Specialist Eating Disorder Service are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services) Practitioner to join their diverse and friendly team.

The post holder will provide eating disorder services and treatment to young people and their families across the Durham and Darlington areas and play a crucial link role in supporting paediatric admissions and discharges. 

The eating disorder team includes clinical psychologists, nurses, associate practitioners, dietitians and psychiatrists. Therefore, the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team is essential.

The post holder will provide evidence-based assessment and treatment-based interventions as part of the clinical eating disorder pathways, and offer input to individuals, their families and carers in a clinic setting. The candidate will also provide supervision, and mentorship to students and junior staff working within the team. The post holder will support the team with service development using the Trust’s quality improvement methods.

We are looking to appoint an individual with a range of transferrable skills, who is highly motivated and enthusiastic about working with this client group. In exchange the successful candidate will be well supported within a friendly and supportive team, with continuing opportunities for their ongoing professional development.

The Specialist Eating Disorders team, are in the process of developing our intensive treatment service who provide care for the young people who require more intensive support or at risk of admission to inpatient services, such as; meal coaching, physical health monitoring and risk assessment. The successful candidates would be given an opportunity to contribute to the development of and work within this service. The team now operates a 7-day service 08:00am - 18:00pm.  We are based across two  bases; North End House in Durham and The Acley Centre in Newton Aycliffe.

  • Current professional registration with appropriate body in healthcare or social work
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Depending on work area, recognised sign off mentor (or equivelant) or must be achieved within agreed time scale
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area (within agreed timescale)
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent

  • Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy e.g. family therapy, CBT etc
  • Recognised training in facilitation of parenting groups
  • Leadership or management qualification
  • CAMHS Degree
  • Certificate in teaching & assessing in clinical practice as appropriate to own profession

  • Provide effective clincial supervision, teaching, training and assessing in clinical practice
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake lead professional / care co-ordinator responsibilities
