North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

Under the direction of the  Patient Safety Lead the post holder will be required to:

 ·         Co-ordinate clinical governance and quality initiatives with the Directorate

·         Support Patient Safety Lead/Senior Team  in driving and achieving CQC,NHSLA and Maternity Incentive scheme (MIS) standards

Main duties of the job

Ensure effective communication between all areas within the Directorate

Support and encourage the development of a research conscious workforce

Ensure research evidence underpins development of guidelines and standards of clinical care

Promote a no blame culture of reporting incidents/ Events

Ensure lessons learned following complaints, adverse events, using root cause analysis, 

Claims and complaints are used to identify training needs within the Directorate and initiate changes in practice which are subsequently audited

Co-ordinate Clinical Risk Management in line with the Risk Management Standards/CQC

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Actively support the promotion of the patient and public involvement agenda across the directorates planning process; encourage the involvement of users and their representatives thought out the services to support the patient and public involvement within the Trust Strategies.
  2. Lead and advise on the development of evidence based patient information that is appropriately reviewed and updated.

3.    Ensure that promoted practices and action plans focus on a women and children centred approach.

4.    Promotion and co-ordination of the patient safety and quality agenda in accordance with

Guidelines, protocols and Audits.

  1. To support the team with the development and completion of regular quality audits / implementation of amendments to policies and processes.
  2. Support the team with chasing investigation reports, checking reports are received and highlighting areas of key importance.
  3. Support the team in the collection of information to support the team to resolve appropriate patients within the complaint process.

  • Registered Midwife / Nurse/ or Relevant Experience
  • Research/Audit/Training/Quality
  • Midwifery/nursing experience /Patient Safety Experience

  • Awareness of strands of Clinical Governance with evidence of previous involvement
  • Awareness of Corporate Governance with evidence of implementation
  • Evidence of facilitation and working with teams
Desirable criteria
