Specialist Dietitian - Forensic Services

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to 2m people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.
We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public. The services are spread over a wide geographical area of around 3,600 square miles, which includes coastal, rural and industrial areas.

Are you interested in a dietetic career in the field of forensic mental health and learning disabilities? We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Registered Dietitian to join our team of dietitians working within a specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust.
This exciting post provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the Forensic Service at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough. Clinical areas include working with service users with mental health problems and learning disabilities in a secure inpatient setting. This will involve a strong emphasis on weight management and the associated long term health problems. In addition there will be some work in oral nutritional support.
The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in policy development, audit, research activities, pathway development, menu planning, staff and student training.
The Dietetic Team in the Trust is the largest and most established dietetic team in mental health and learning disabilities in the UK and has excellent links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA. We have several experienced Clinical Lead Dietitians in the clinical areas of adult eating disorders, adult mental health, children and young people, forensics and older people. We are have developed a high profile as a good quality dietetic service at both local and national levels and are the largest mental health and LD dietetic team in the UK. We have strong links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA and are committed to providing first class professional development.
Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian with significant experience in dietetics including some awareness of the skills required to work with service users with mental illness and/or learning disabilities with complex needs. They should have excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable. Regular clinical supervision with the Professional Head of Dietetics will be provided and there will be a strong emphasis on Continued Professional Development and post-graduate training.
