A superb opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) to join our team of highly motivated, professional staff who take pride in providing excellent services for our patients at Tees Screening Centre, North Tees and Hartlepool Foundation Trust. Full time and part time posts are available,
Main duties of the job
We seek a dynamic individuals who are keen to support the development of the exemplary service delivered thus far; with excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Data entry and management forms a substantial part of the role and good IT skills are necessary to ensure accurate collection of data and management of the patient pathway, and prospective applicants should be fully conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook packages as a minimum. Training will be provided on the dedicated screening IT system (BCSS).
The team is based at North Tees Hospital, but Screening Practitioners are expected to work across the four other screening sites in Redcar, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Northallerton, together with other venues as appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will provide the highest standard of care and support for patients participating in the national Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and will practice autonomously with responsibility for assessing patients fitness for colonoscopy, informing and supporting individuals throughout the screening pathway. The post is varied and includes providing nurse-led clinics for individuals who have tested positive for Faecal Occult Blood as part of the Programme; attending colonoscopy lists, processing histology outcomes and providing results including cancer diagnosis.

Essential criteria
- Intense concentration for long periods of time. Constant interupptions during worling day
- Experience dealing with distressed patients and carers
- Working under pressure to achieve defined goals/targets
- Travelling across multiple sites on a regualr basis
Qualifications/ training required
Essential criteria
- Ability to study at degree/masters level for completion of LJMU post grad certificate in bowel cancer screening
- RGN or Registered Health Care Professional with Diploma or 1st Degree in health related field
- Mentor/teaching/assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Communication training
- Counselling training
- Health promotion qualification
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
- 3 years post registration
- Relevant clinical experience - knowledge of lower GI disease (benign and malignant) including radiological , endoscopic investigations, surgical and oncological treatments.
- Patient assesmsent and history taking
- Clinical Governance, Risk management, valid understanding of consent procedures
- Working in a multidisciplinary team environment
- Awareness of national agenda relating to Cancer Services
