Job overview
This is a consultant post commencing immediately within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. The post has arisen an increased demand across the service and to support the on call rota.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved in cross-site working between the University Hospital of Hartlepool and the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton-On-Tees and provide general obstetric and gynaecological services. The post holder will be involved in planned emergency sessions for obstetrics and gynaecology, and will participate in the on-call rota with other colleagues, supported by junior medical staff.
The post requires the skills of a generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. A special interest in high risk pregnancy antenatal care would be desirable. An ability to work well in a multi-professional team is an essential requirement for the post.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Active participation in Undergraduate and Postgraduate training is expected.
Applicants must possess MRCOG or equivalent qualification and should be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining specialist registration at the time of interview.
The post will be offered at a 10 PA contract under the Terms and Conditions for Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
This job is unlikely to attract a work permit. Applications from candidates who require a permit to work in the UK may not be considered if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG or FRCOG or equivalent qualification
- Completed a recognised training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council (London) with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (within 6 months), CESR or European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
- An additional higher qualification relevant to the specialty
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to that required of a UK CCT holder.
- Be able to demonstrate clinical experience in the management of high risk obstetrics and medical disorders in obstetrics
- Be able to operate independently on a range of surgical procedures.

Management and Adminstrative Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of principles of involvement of medical staff in management
- Willingness to participate in management duties and activities within the NHS
- Evidence of having completed the clinical audit loop
- Evidence of active participation in a quality improvement project
- Awareness of the national drivers for safety improvement in maternity services
- Understand how health service reforms affect clinical practice
- Good organisational skills

Teaching Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability, enthusiasm and willingness to teach and mentor trainees and other staffing groups (nursing, midwifery, non-clinical managers, undergraduates)

Research Experience

- Evidence of clinical research including publications in peer reviewed journals
