With a budget of around £365m, three hospitals and 5,500 staff, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

This is an exciting new role for  a 12 month fixed term opportunity for a Band 8a Extended Scope Practitioner (Physiotherapist) within the spinal team based at the University Hospital of North tees. The successful candidate will be seeing patients referred to the Consultant's nit for assessment, clinical diagnosis and management of neuro-muscular skeletal disorders.  

The post holder will ideally have experience in working within Orthopedics, including knowledge of a range of conditions and post op protocols.

We are looking for dedicated health care professionals who is flexible in their approach and possess the aptitude to adapt quickly to new situations. In return we will provide you with an induction support, and the opportunity to develop with the guidance of experienced Senior staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of the existing  spinal team.

You will triage referrals alongside the Consultants and utilise advanced skills and knowledge to assess, diagnose and treat patients appropriately.

The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team providing advanced level care to patients and to evaluate the effectiveness of the ESP role within the sponal team via audits.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • State Registered Professional
  • Physiotherapy Degree
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate courses. Completion of recognised/accredited advanced assessment, diagnostic and treatment courses eg Maitland and Cyrian/MCP
Desirable criteria
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Qualification in soft tissue and joint injections
  • To have or be working towards Masters Degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience post qualification.
  • Considerable experience in spinal conditions
  • Experience in clinical audit/research
  • Evidence of advanced knowledge as in CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • IRMER training, experience of interpreting diagnostic information from a range of sources

  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative
Desirable criteria
  • Presentation skills
