North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

Job overview

The vacant post is for an International Training Fellowship in Anaesthesia & Critical Care medicine and is approved by the Post Graduate Dean under the Medical Training Initiative (MTI) scheme.

After a successful phased induction into clinical work, the International Fellow will have regular training sessions across a broad spectrum of specialities in line with their individual training plan. 

The post holder will participate on a 1:8 on call rota (12-hour full shift) for intensive care unit and Anaesthesia at University Hospital of North Tees. 

 

Main duties of the job

The post is offered on the basis of 48 hours of work per week on an average and complies with the EWTD regulations.  The candidate will be allocated to a minimum of 3 teaching clinical sessions in operating theatres and/or intensive care unit with clinical supervisors every week and the rest of the work may have a service commitment.

He/she must be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.

The post holder needs to undertake annual training/updates on infection prevention and control.

The candidate/post holder must prepare for and undertake the protective interventions that he/she is responsible for in a manner that is consistent with evidence based practice and maintaining patient safety.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Have a Medical Degree
  • Up-to-date IELTS Certificate with an overall score of at least 7.5 / OET Grade B
  • Not an EU or British Citizien
  • Provide evidence of living in one of the MTI-eligible countries for the last 12 months (we will only consider candidates who live in DFID countries or low income, low middle income. If you live in an upper middle income country we may consider you for the post of MTI, but priority will be given to applications from DFID and low and middle income countries.)
  • Not attempted PLAB
  • Must have Postgraduate qualification in anaesthesia / intensive care / pain management
  • Provide evidence of at least 3 years of experience in anaesthesia / ICM training outside of the UK and European Union
