North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital-based services to the population of Hartlepool, Stockton on Tees and parts of East Durham and Sedgefield as well as community, therapeutic and screening to a wider population across Durham and Teesside.

An opportunity has arisen to join this busy acute Trust,  as part of a dedicated team of clinical staff, to support the provision of patient care. The role includes the use of IT systems as well as direct patient care.

The successful applicant will be required to work across all hospital sites in Stockton, Hartlepool and Peterlee.

The shifts are a mixture of predominantly 7.5 hour day shifts, but include extended 12 hour day shifts and some weekend shifts across all  sites. It is essential for the post holder to be able to drive with own license.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be working within the Radiology Departments across 5 sites.

Required duties of the role will include:

  • Good standard of general education
  • Good communication skills
  • basic computer skills
  • work well in a team
  • Assisting Radiologists, Sonographers and Radiographers during examination and some interventional procedures
  • Assist in the set up of sterile/non-sterile trolleys
  • Insertion and removal of peripheral cannula
  • Answering telephone enquiries from service users
  • Liaising with wards, porters and departments
  • Preparing patients and clinical rooms for examinations
  • Escorting and chaperoning patients 
  • Monitoring waiting areas

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Assisting Radiologists and Radiographers during examinations.
  • Liaising with porters and referring wards and departments.
  • Preparing patients and rooms for examinations.
  • Monitoring waiting areas.
  • Escorting and chaperoning patients.
  • Help prepare sterile/non sterile trolleys.
  • Insertion and removal of peripheral cannula
  • Record patients height, weight and blood pressure
  • Registration of patients on department computer system.
  • Answering telephone enquiries from service users
  • Liaising with users re appointments and patient preparation.
  • Preparation and update of portering and appointment lists..
  • Daily maintenance and QA of equipment.
  • Basic stock control.
  • To be familiar and adhere to Trust & Directorate Policies.
  • To follow and observe Local rules for Radiation Protection and I.R.M.E.R.
  • To practice meticulous approach to documentation 
  • To practice a responsible attitude towards patients and visitors. To ensure they are comfortable and are given support and the information they need.
  • Be aware of patient confidentiality issues.
  • Reporting incidents involving patients ,staff and equipment to Radiology Operations Manager / Head of Radiology 
  • Ensure all equipment is used intelligently, reporting faults to Radiology Operations Manager / Head of Radiology 
  • To assist in the development of protocols regarding processing equipment QA.
  • To be aware of the need for personal development when taking part in annual appraisals.
  • To have effective close working relationships with all members of the imaging team.
  • Maintain a high standard of support service for all staff groups working within the Directorate. Contribute to the provision and maintenance of a high quality service.
  • Follow departmental procedures of routine cleaning and preparation of rooms..
  • Maintain required standards of appearance as per Trust Policy.
