The post holder will be part of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Therapy Services providing high quality of rehabilitation to children and young adults.

Main duties of the job

To assist and work under the direction of the therapist in the implementation of the assessed management plan for child/young adult.  To assist in carrying out duties assigned to that department including administration duties.

He/she will be required to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to deliver individual therapy programmes to children and young adults both in their educational or most appropriate setting.

The post holder will be required to use the specialist skills and work autonomously to deliver rehabilitation as prescribed by the therapist.  Working unsupervised reporting back patient progress.

Have basic knowledge of Paediatric clinical medical conditions and how they may present.

Provide ongoing training/support to staff within educational settings as to the appropriate and ongoing rehabilitation requirements of the child/young adult.

To implement therapeutic programmes to children and young adults within the locality and educational establishments.

To act as a mentor/trainer to staff in educational settings to support individual and group rehabilitation programmes.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To have good communication skills, organisation and interpersonal skills.

To report and communicate to the therapist and other agencies on any change/difficulties regarding patients therapeutic programme.

To liaise appropriately with other disciplines/agencies with regard to the rehabilitation plan.

To liaise with all agencies, carers and professionals involved in the delivery of services to children and young adults.

To work as part of the extended multi-disciplinary team, with educational support staff and teachers.

To enhance and develop relationships with other Services associated with the Service.

Have the confidence and ability to work unsupervised in children/young adults own homes following prescribed programme of treatment or within educational settings.  Have the confidence and ability to act as a mentor/trainer to staff in educational settings.

To use special skills to implement therapeutic procedures as directed by therapists which are within knowledge and experience.  To modify programmes only when necessary within defined competencies and report back to the therapist.

Good time management skills.

To organise and prioritise delegated work tasks and activities, being flexible to the needs of the service as directed by the therapist.

To be flexible with regards to workload, changing duties and responsibilities.

To manage own caseload as delegated by the Therapist working within the hospital and community.

Have a current valid driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • High standard of literacy and numeracy
  • Some experience of working with children and young people
Desirable criteria
  • IT skills – competent in navigating a computer and relevant software systems

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with children
  • Demonstrate knowledge of paediatric conditions
  • Experience of delivering/following a programme individual to the child
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an MDT
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specialised equipment and therapeutic activities
  • Experience of working within an educational environment
