Main duties of the job
To work as an integral member of the gastroenterology clinical team. To be responsible for the specialist nutrition and dietetic management of patients on the caseload using specialist knowledge and skills.
To support the prevention of unplanned hospital admissions, responding to patients who require urgent assessments and in collaboration with the patient and community integrated team, set up management plans to enable the patient to stay at home where possible.
To work as an integral member of multi-disciplinary teams and Nutrition & Dietetic service acting as an expert on the dietetic management of patients providing advice, support and training to staff, advising on change in dietetic treatment in line with evidence based practise.
To work alongside the Band 7 Team Leads and other clinical leads, as an expert on the dietetic management of conditions related to your current rotation. Providing advice, support and training to staff, advising on change in dietetic treatment in line with evidence based practise.

Using your proven specialist knowledge and skills to assess and treat our patients by providing high quality, complex nutritional and dietetic advice in order to contribute to the care of patients enabling them to make informed choices about their health and related behaviours.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- 4 year degree in Dietetics or equivalent Current State Registration with Health Professional Council
- Evidence of further postgraduate experience in specialist area
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate training in behavioural change/ motivational interviewing techniques
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of gastroenterology patients and enteral nutrition.
- Undertaking new patient assessment and treatment
- Conducting patient and other health professional group education
Desirable criteria
- Experience of assessing and treating complex patients incl parenteral nutrition
- Training of Student Dietitians
Skills
Essential criteria
- Sound clinical knowledge based on current best practice.
- Knowledge of current issues and research relating to dietetics.
- In depth knowledge of prescribable oral nutritional supplements, enteral feeds and other dietetic products, medications and drug nutrient interactions
Desirable criteria
- Current NHS policies and initiatives
- Evidence of relevant specialist interest group (British Dietetic Association)

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
