This job opportunity would equally suit someone wanting to work up to 26.25 hours per week over 3 to 4 days. We are looking for an Audiologist to join our Paediatric Audiology Service for a 12 month period. We are IQIPS accredited and can support someone wanting an opportunity to gain paediatric experience or to make a move into paediatrics.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children's Audiology Team based at Brighton General Hospital in the role of Paediatric Audiologist.
The post is based at the Seaside View Child Development Centre at Brighton General Hospital. Within the role there is an expectation to work at our other sites in Haywards Heath and Crawley.
There is scope within the role to develop paediatric audiology skills with a primary focus on hearing assessment and work in partnership with senior audiologists, audiology assistants and the wider multi-disciplinary team of the child development centre across all aspects of paediatric audiology.
Main duties of the job
a) To contribute to the development of the Paediatric Audiology service and departmental protocols and policies and to participate fully in the development of objectives within the service.
b) To promote the use of social media for the children’s audiology service and develop the web based patient/service interface in compliance with SCFT and national guidelines.
c) To contribute to the development of local clinical guidelines and care pathways.
d) To assume delegated tasks as requested by line manager, including participation in working groups, policy development groups.
e) When requested, to deputise as necessary for duties and responsibilities within the Paediatric Audiology Service.
f) To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager, which are commensurate with the role.
g) To fully participate in the Trust’s appraisal system and personal development planning process on a six monthly basis and be responsible for contributing to and complying with agreed personal, service and trust objectives.
h) To provide supervision and personal development reviews to those assigned to the post holder through direct line management. Ensuring compliance with SCFTs appraisal process, comprehensive use of ESR, linking with SCFT support services (e.g. Human resources, Occupational Therapy) as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
a) To undertake age-appropriate hearing assessments and interpret the results, develop management plans, liaise with families of all infants and children. These are as follows: -
a) Behavioural testing using Visual Reinforcement Audiometry.
b) Play audiometry.
c) Appropriate Speech Discrimination testing in quiet and noise.
d) Pure tone audiometry.
e) Masking techniques where appropriate across all assessment methods.
f) Complex hearing assessment using modified signal.
g) Acoustic admittance measurements.
h) Otoacoustic Emissions.
i) ABR, ASSRs (Crawley postholder specific).
j) To assist senior paediatric audiologists and work with paediatric assistants to provide the most appropriate care for the child.
b) To undertake age-appropriate hearing rehabilitation appointments and interpret the results and best management (Crawley postholder jointly with Senior Paediatric Audiologists; Brighton post holder in an assistant role as required with scope for further development depending on experience/ service needs):
a) Full range of verification fitting methods for hearing aids (including REMs and measured RECDs).
b) Full range of validation including age-appropriate questionnaires and speech testing.
c) Liaising with external services such as sensory support services both through planned multi-disciplinary meetings and as required for the patient.
d) To assist senior paediatric audiologists and work with paediatric assistants to provide the most appropriate care for the child.
e) Taking of aural impressions of babies and children and fitting of ear moulds.
f) Follow up assessments of paediatric hearing aid users.
g) Undertake hearing aid repairs including servicing of hearing aids, re-tubing of ear moulds and battery exchange as required.
h) Advice on listening devices.
c) To liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team and professionals, where appropriate, in the management of patient care plans to ensure the highest quality of care is achieved for the child.
d) To be involved in the daily and yearly maintenance and calibration of audiological equipment.
e) To adapt practice to meet the individual’s needs, having regard for cultural and linguistic differences.
f) To communicate complex, sensitive and contentious information regarding assessment and management to patients/parents/carers and other professionals. Ensuring effective communication is achieved in order to reduce barriers to understanding, especially where comprehension, cognitive or emotional difficulties exist.
g) To communicate effectively with parents/carers and professionals within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring a coordinated approach to meeting the individual’s needs.
h) To ensure personal compliance about mandatory, professional and personal development in accordance with service needs, CPD guidelines and professional codes of conduct.

- Registered with UK Professional Body
Experience

- 2 years audiology experience post qualification
- Experience and document knowledge of paediatric assessment and referral pathways
- Evidence of verbal and written information

- Demonstrates up to date clinical expertise
