Fix Term Contract to cover Maternity Leave (Part time 22.5hrs)

The Sussex House Nursery is an NHS workplace nursery catering for children between the ages of 6 months to 5 years based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

We currently have a position available for a Room Leader in our baby playroom caring for babies between 6 - 15months.

The post is part time Monday to Wednesday (various shifts) however there would be scope to work additional hours and flexible with days to help support the playroom in a leadership role.

This is a Fix Term post for 10 months however this may be extended or other post opportunities in the nursery after this period.

As a Room Leader you will be working alongside other qualified/unqualified members and of staff and students in a lively and friendly setting.

 

Main duties of the job

The suitable candidate will need to be experienced with babies and young  toddlers as there are some periods of the day when you may be based in the young toddler room which cares for children up to the age of 2 years.

The Role Involves:

  • Directly working with our babies and toddlers under 2 years  therefore the candidate will need to demonstrate excellent knowledge and experience with children of 6months to 2 years.
  • Experience of supporting junior members of a Team and Students
  • Maintaining high standards in delivering the EYFS curriculum to help children progress according to their developmental needs.
  • Working as part of a team in a caring and nurturing environment.
  • Supporting children, parents and external professionals in partnership.
  • Good communication skills both orally and written.
  • Excellent organisational skills.

As a Room Leader you will be supporting staff in the playroom  to deliver a full and structured routine, guide staff with a well thought out curriculum which supports development and interests. Help support with the induction of new staff and students.

In the absence of the Nursery Manager and Deputy Manager you will be required to oversee the safe running of the nursery for a short period of the day with the support of other senior nursery staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To promote the health, safety and welfare of all children, parents and staff in the centre at all times.

Recognising that each child is an individual and entitled to be treated as such with their needs, physical, emotional and intellectual being considered and their rights to be treated with the respect followed.

To encourage all areas of the children’s development with the appropriate learning opportunities and play opportunities.

To provide a stimulating, friendly and caring environment at all times, for all children, parents and staff.

To provide a high standard of support and customer care to all parent / carers, in partnership with the room leader

Person specification

Qualifications level 3 NVQ

Essential criteria
  • Early Years experience of working with children under 5 years
  • Experience working with under 2 years
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Able to communicate with colleagues
  • Able to communicate with Parents, Carers and Visitiors
  • Experience of working with the Early Years Curriculum
  • Level 3 Qualified minimum
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with working with babies (6-12mths)
  • 3 year First Aid Training
  • Safeguarding and Child Protection Training
  • SENCO Training
  • Experience of supporting junior staff and students
  • Basic I.T. skills
  • Demonstration of Creative Ability
