Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Speciality Medicine Division to become the Ward Manager for C5 Acute Medicine and Endocrine Ward. It is a 27 bedded unit in the Louisa Martindale Building.
We are looking for a dynamic individual with exceptional leadership skills to motivate and co-ordinate the unit’s nursing team daily activities in delivering outstanding care.
You will be supported within your role by an experienced clinical matron.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.
Main duties of the job
The ward manager will be an integral member of the divisional management team supporting the division in the active delivery of all key performance targets. They will be accountable for the provision of effective professional nursing leadership and proactive resource management for the clinical area. As an experienced practitioner, the post holder will be expected to focus on providing a clean environment for care, ensuring best practice in infection control, improving clinical care standards and treating patients with dignity and respect within the define resource allocated.

The Unit/Ward Leader will provide strong leadership to monitor overall performance of the ward. They are expected to motivate, inspire, develop, and lead a dynamic team using a tailored or flexible approach. The successful candidate will ensure themselves and the team maintain clinical and professional competence in line with the standards of the NMC.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Diabetes Module
- Extensive experience working in Diabetes/Endocrine/Acute Medicine Wards
- Mentorship course or equivalent e.g. PS/PA
- Excellent ability to co-ordinate the work of multidisciplinary team on own ward.
- Ability to understand KPI’s and basic information on performance.
- Evidence of excellent ability to monitor the quality of work in others, to identify their learning and development needs and devise strategies to meet those needs.
- Ability to participate and implement the development of nursing practice.
Desirable criteria
- Care of the Acutely Ill Adult Module
- Immediate Life Support or Advanced Life Support
- PFIS or quality improvement training.
- Evidence of experience of conflict resolution
- Experience in management of change in accordance with Trust policy.
- Demonstrated ability to understand ward budgeting and maintaining resources within that budget limit
- Evidence of performance management skills
