Job overview
We are a designated adult Major Trauma Centre, one of only 22 in England. We are also a standard Trauma Centre for Paediatrics and are supported in the care of these patients by our colleagues from the dedicated children's Emergency Department at the co-located Royal Alexandra Children's' Hospital.
The Emergency Department consists of a Resuscitation department with 5 adult bays. 25 Major spaces, a dedicated Urgent Treatment centre supported by a GP service and Emergency Nurse Practitioners. There is a 12 chaired Ambulatory Clinical Decision’s Unit. The ED is also support by our embedded mental health liaison team provided by Sussex Partnership NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job

Deliver high quality, compassionate care appropriate to their skills, experience, qualifications and competence, with a focus on promoting health and independence
- Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values

Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual

Autonomously carry out clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, or under the direction and supervision of a more senior RN, or other registered care professionals, where competency in that area is still developing

Take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace

Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse with active registration
Experience and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Evidence of functional skills in mathematics and English Level 2 or GCSEs in maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent.)
- Experience in an NHS setting
- Experience as a Registered nurse within the NHS
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of recent relevant CPD
- Experience in emergency care (either pre or post registration, or a similarly acute care environment
Skills
Essential criteria
- Exercise personal responsibility and work independently within defined parameters of practice, taking the initiative in a variety of situations and performing a range of clinical and care skills consistent with the role, responsibilities and professional values of a Registered Nurse
- Exercise judgment in assessing patient condition, comfort and wellbeing using analysis of a range of possible factors.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of wound care/ plastering course
