University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Pharmacy department are proud to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Brighton and Haywards Heath sites as Acute and Specialty Medicine Divisional lead pharmacist.
We are looking for someone to plan, manage, develop and assist in the leadership and provision of clinical pharmacy services to medicine services across our Royal Sussex County and Princess Royal Hospitals.
This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.
If you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.
Main duties of the job
As the Acute and Specialty Medicine team manager, the post holder will be responsible for the management and development of all staff providing pharmacy and medicines optimisation services to Acute and Specialty medicine. The post holder will be the lead clinical pharmacy practitioner for Acute and Specialty Medicine responsible for the delivery, development, evaluation and coordination of clinical pharmacy services, working in line with the objectives of the division and the UHSussex pharmacy objectives to provide excellent patient care. The post holder will be responsible for Acute and Specialty Medicine for all aspects of medicines management to provide an expert level of clinical pharmacy services to patients in a chosen area in the division, helping optimise patient care involving the use of medication and will be the lead clinical pharmacy practitioner for all pharmacy aspects including drug expenditure reporting, safety and quality issues, audit, teaching and research & development activities for the division.

Additional duties/responsibilities

To participate in weekend/bank holiday rota at RSCH or PRH as required to provide pharmacy services (clinical and supply).

Will be required to work in the dispensary at times of need to provide professional support and to provide pharmacy services (clinical and supply) for in-patients, outpatients and patients participating in clinical trials to fulfil the clinical and legal requirements of a dispensary service.

May be required to participate in out of hours emergency duty services subject to joint agreement between the post holder and their manager.

- Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Post Graduate Diploma/RPS Foundation Framework completed OR relevant experience
- Significant experience in providing acute secondary care clinical pharmacy services
- Experience of writing and developing guidelines and policies
- Experience of developing and monitoring delivery of KPIs
- Experience of mananagement of finance
- Experience of high level people and departmental management
- Experience of developing and delivering high quality education and training for all levels of pharmacy undergraduates and post graduate practitioners
- BPharm / BSc (pharmacy) / MPharm/equivalent pharmacy degree
Desirable criteria
- Independent Prescriber
- Demonstrated ability to reconcile national priorities with local realities
- Evidence of working with external partners
- Postgraduate qualification in healthcare leadership or management
