Job overview

UHSussex is pleased to have secured external funding for the role of Pathology LIMS Technical Project Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for providing professional project management expertise and support to the Pathology LIMS project and Transformation Portfolio within the UH Sussex Pathology service. They will ensure PRINCE2-based project management processes are supported so that the project budgets, timescales, staff resources are adequately monitored and controlled, that benefits are achieved and Trust and NHS standing financial instructions, policies and procedures are complied with.  In addition, they will work collaboratively with Project Manager(s) within the Sussex Integrated Care System (ICS) and developing Pathology Networks to improve services; implement transitional initiatives and efficiency programmes within Pathology, ensuring project objectives are met and benefits realised. The post holder will be required to manage multiple projects, through appropriate project management tools and personal experience/expertise to support the service’s objectives and efficiency programme

Main duties of the job

Management & support of the Pathology Network LIMS and other Technical Project(s) to agreed workstreams, standards, budgets and timescales.  Implementation of complex and simple change across the Pathology IT Service and where appropriate, engage with service users in the Acute Trusts, community services and Primary care. Development of core processes to support the above based on clear operational/business change requirements. Identification of ongoing training needs to support the above. Provision of good quality management information to support effective ongoing change processes to occur.  Working with Departmental Leads, Managers, Clinicians and key stakeholders this role will align with wider network strategies and will embed changes within the organisation. This role will work across Pathology, the Trust(s) and external organisations to identify what changes in processes, procedures and practices are needed to achieve change and deliver the planned benefits whilst providing subject matter expertise and management skills to develop a strong service delivery.

  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment Background in IT project management & experience of delivering technical IT projects Experience of partnership working across organisation Liaising with 3rd party suppliers and contractors Excellent written and verbal communication skills Having managed resources to include budgets & personnel Developed policies and procedures Ability to work to tight deadlines/key milestones Experience of analysing and assimilating complex data to identify & resolve issues Excellent influence and persuasion skills both horizontally and vertical internal and external to the organisation Ability to present complex and sensitive information to large groups of staff at all levels (board level to junior staff) both internally and externally and through a variety of media Able to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues including performance and change Summarise and present complex and sometimes contentious reports and data Understanding of the principles of change management and modernisation Ability to understand complex workflows and issues and reduce these to easily understandable diagrams with supporting documentation Proactive approach to problem-solving and proven ability to develop and implement solutions The ability to recognise the needs and feelings of others whether directly or indirectly expressed The ability to handle failures constructively
