Job overview

This post is office based, situated in a busy and fast paced office environment. The post holder is required to manage the results and recall service, along with one other recall health adviser and a results coordinator. The post sits within the wider Health Adviser Team. 

There is training and support provided in order to understand the IT systems, specific diagnoses and the different implications and management of positive results. 

The post holder will ideally be hard working, team focused and have a high degree of sensitivity and emotional intelligence. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to interpret and action positive results for patients screening at Sexual Health and Contraception Service (SHAC) in Brighton. This is a vital role that underpins the smooth running of the service.  The post holder will be contacting patients directly to discuss results over the phone and use their skills and knowledge to navigate sensitive or challenging conversations. 

Strong organisational and administrative skills are also key to support the smooth running of a busy office and provide administrative support to the health adviser team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. We include this information at the outset to provide clarity and avoid unnecessary inconvenience for applicants.

To action daily positive results and update and record actions on patient EPR system. 

Give patients diagnosis of STI's over the telephone and manage associated questions 

Ensure that patients attend the required treatment appointments and follow up and recall where necessary

Initiate conversations about partner notification and have a wider understanding of the public health implications for this. 

Have a sound knowledge of systems that support smooth running of Health Adviser and SHAC service. For Example SXT. IPROC, MILL Systems (to be INFORM) ICE, Panda, Bamboo, Excel, word, Spine 

Ability to speak to patient's in distress, or who have significant vulnerabilities, be able to make an accurate assessment of their needs and an awareness of when to escalate concerns to the health adviser team. 

Have a sound understanding of Safeguarding procedures and responsibilities.

  • High Level of IT aptitude
  • Sound knowledge of systems related to role and ability to learn
  • Experience working in a fast paced, pressured environment
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Experience working in a sexual health clinic or related organisation
  • Knowledge of issues relating to sexual health and emotional sensitivity
