We are looking for an inspiring Clinical Education Lead to drive high-quality, inclusive post-registration education for nurses across our Trust. This is a pivotal role where you will lead a dedicated team, implement education initiatives and ensure our nursing workforce is equipped to deliver outstanding patient care. Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide operational leadership in the development and delivery of high-quality, inclusive clinical education for the nursing workforce, working in close collaboration with the nursing, workforce, and Integrated Education leadership teams.  They will lead the Clinical Education Nursing (Post-registration) team across all sites, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources to drive improvements in clinical practice and patient care.

The role will ensure that education and development initiatives are aligned with Trust priorities and national standards.  The post holder will oversee the continuous assessment of educational needs and the evaluation of programmes to ensure they deliver measurable improvements in care quality and workforce capability.

As a senior leader, the Clinical Education Lead will deputise for the Head or Deputy Head of Clinical Education (Nursing and Midwifery) to represent the Trust in internal and external educational forums.  They will be accountable for maintaining robust governance arrangements and championing a culture of professional excellence and continuous learning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role involves leading post-registration clinical education and practice development across the Trust.

Key duties include implementing education priorities, translating clinical learning into targeted programmes, and standardising core competencies. 

The postholder delivers and oversees education activities, including digital and blended learning, ensuring alignment with service and national standards.

The postholder will mentor Clinical Educators, promote wellbeing, and support a culture of continuous improvement. 

Responsibilities also include monitoring compliance with NHSE Quality Framework Standards, managing budgets, and acting as an authorised signatory.

Additionally, the role deputises as the Trust lead for clinical education (Nursing and Midwifery) and provides operational leadership for the Clinical Education Nursing (Post-registration) team.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • First level Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council (UK)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education
  • Leadership / management qualification
  • Evidence of extensive experience in clinical education
  • Evidence of advanced facilitation, coaching, and mentorship skills
  • Evidence of monitoring and reporting on impact and outcomes of education activity
  • Evidence of standardising workplace practices and clinical governance
  • Evidence of successful autonomous working
  • Evidence of ongoing learning and development
Desirable criteria
  • Masters qualification
  • Publication / presentation of research activity
  • Research activity in relation to clinical education and/or practice development
  • Evidence of finance / budgetary knowledge and related systems
  • Evidence of extensive experience of facilitating partnership working
  • Evidence of project management
