Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the MSK outpatients.  

As the Lead Orthopaedic Practitioner, you will have direct responsibility for the proficient application and removal of a variety of casting materials, the Lead Technician is responsible for supervising the Orthopaedic Technicians across three sites, ensuring patients receive a professional, efficient, and compassionate service.  

We primarily work within the hours of Monday - Friday 08:30 - 17:30 - this role is intended as full time but part time may be considered.  

You will support the Orthopaedics team with their outpatient care. We have three departments, over two sites that we work from.  

These include our new Fracture Clinic in the Louisa Martindale Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton which opened in 2023. This new building allowed us to provide modern facilities for patients and staff.   

We also work from the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital in Brighton and the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre Outpatients department based at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.  

This role will base you primarily at the Royal Sussex County Hospital which is the Major Trauma Centre for the Sussex Trauma Network, but you will be expected to work cross site. 

Main duties of the job

The role requires you to assist with the smooth running of clinics

Consultant led 

Practitioner led clinics

Virtual Fracture and Virtual Hand Fracture Clinics

 

You will also need to ensure Orthopaedic inpatients have access to plaster services. 

Leading the Orthopaedic Practitioner team will require you to support both their continuous professional development needs but also their health and wellbeing.  

Support improvement projects with your skills and knowledge as required.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential criteria
  • British Orthopaedic Association Casting Certificate.  Includes Glasgow Caledonian University Diploma or BOANC (British Orthopaedic Association of Nursing Certificate) diploma (to include casting experience)
  • Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
  • Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
