Job overview

Are you highly motivated and passionate about exercise and fitness? Our Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapy Service is looking for an Exercise and Rehabilitation Assistant to join our dynamic and enthusiastic team.

The post covers 15 hours per week (0.4 WTE)and will be primarily based at St Richards Hospital MSK Outpatients with opportunities to work alongside Physiotherapists  and gym rehab team. The role involves delivering 1:1 exercise programmes as well as group based rehabilitation within our well-equipped rehab gym . 

Main duties of the job

We will provide you with training and develop prospects to expand your skills in this role. This includes attending our monthly programme of In-service Training and participation in 1:1 supervision. There will also be extensive opportunities to learn from our large number of Physiotherapists and Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners. In addition to this, you may have the opportunity to support students and work experience students when they are on placement. 

The successful applicant will work as part of the musculoskeletal team with a variety of duties. These will include both administrative, and clinical aspects; including coordinating and conducting rehabilitation programmes (including 1:1 and group classes) for patients, both independently, and under the guidance of the Physiotherapists / Osteopaths.  

Applicants should be able to demonstrate commitment to individualised and compassionate patient care, alongside willingness in personal and professional development. Experience in healthcare is desirable but not essential. Applicants must have good communication skills, and understanding of human physiology and mechanics would be advantageous.

Person specification

Qualifications and/or professional registration

Essential criteria
  • GCSE'S grade C or above
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of reflection on, and development of skills and knowledge (CPD)
  • Completion of a foundation degree / NVQ Level 3 or similar in relevant field

Experience

Desirable criteria
  • Prior experience as a physiotherapy/rehabilitation assistant or within similar setting.
  • Basic understanding of statutory health and social services
  • Experience of exercise prescription 1:1 or in group settings
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy, exercise physiology, human biomechanics and rehabilitation

Skills and Knowledge

  • Able to develop good rapport with a wide variety of people

  • Able to prioritise, work independently and recognise limitations
