We are inviting applications from dentists with a keen interest in Special Care Dentistry to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team. This fixed-term position, offered as maternity cover for one year, involves providing comprehensive dental care to both adults and children with additional needs.
The Special Care Dental Service is part of a countywide service providing NHS Dental treatment to patients on referral, operating Mondays to Fridays, 08:30am to 4:30pm.
The post is based at St. Richard’s Hospital, Chichester and includes delivery of domiciliary care. Full GDC registration and immediate eligibility for a performer number are essential.
Successful applicants will be invited for interview.
Main duties of the job
• Treating patients as individuals, showing them concern and respect and providing them or their carers (where appropriate) with clear information about their treatment, participating in epidemiological surveys as required.
• Screening client groups as required.
• Domiciliary visits.
• Referring patients to other dental professionals as appropriate.
• Supporting senior colleagues with the treatment of patients under general anaesthetic

- Full registration with General Dental Council
- BDS or equivalent
- Performer Number
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of managing a caseload which requires a wide range of restorative skills
- Able to plan and manage care for patients with complex, multi factional needs
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical conditions relevant to the practice of dentistry and how they should be managed
- Able to show sensitivity to the needs of patients and carers
- Supportive leadership style with the ability to motivate staff and create a patient focused working environment
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Dental Software
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a primary dental care setting
- Significant experience of special care dentistry
- Experience of domiciliary care
- Experience of communication with a range of people on complex issues in difficult situations
- Experience of using inhalation sedation

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
