Job overview

This is a opportunity for permanent Band 7 position to support the current Emergency Department Senior Nursing Team to lead the department and support the provision of Quality Care for our patients. 

We are looking for experienced and motivated band 7 or band 6 with ED experience . We have a well-established practice education team who are passionate about personal and professional development. 

St Richards ED currently sees up to 250 patients a day, which includes, Majors, Minors, Resus, Paediatrics and Trauma. 

We work closely within an MDT of Occupational Therapists, frailty team, outreach and Mental Health Liaison services. 

You will have the opportunity to work in each of our 5 different clinical areas which consist of a 6 bay resus room, Majors area,  an Ambulatory area,  a well lead Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) run by Urgent Care Practitioners (UCP).

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

Main duties of the job

 

  • To have continuing 24 hour responsibility for the effective management and leadership of the department.
  • Working as a Senior Clinical Nurse throughout the Emergency Department, developing and coordinating the delivery of high quality nursing care to patients attending with emergency care needs.
  • To participate in the support and professional development of all staff with specific relation to emergency care nursing.
  • To ensure that care provided in all areas of the department is evidence based and that such care follows agreed specialist pathways.
  • To maintain a safe and efficient environment within all areas of the Emergency Department through efficient resource utilisation and quality assurance mechanisms, including audits and incident report investigations. 
  • To ensure timely multi-tasking and prioritising to meet excessive patient demand to maintain patient safety and ensuring the role has a positive influence on the achievement of Key Performance Indicators. 
  • Allocate staff based on acuity and demand and forecasting/planning for staffing deficits. 
  • Respond to pressures such as overcrowding or major incidents. 
  • Support staff with complex patient cases and escalations. 
  • Lead by example in emergency care, standards and best practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be a clinical expert and an excellent role model, providing a clear focus for clinical leadership, and be responsible for ensuring excellence through clinical care managing, teaching and encouraging professional development for all staff whilst meeting the Emergency Department Clinical Quality Indicators, KPI’s and meeting the National Performance Targets and where necessary the wider acute floor. This role encompasses out of hours working (both nights and weekends).

Essential criteria
  • Registered General Nurse or dual trained
  • ED skills and competencies
  • Mentorship or working towards
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Minimum 2 years band 6 experience within an Emergency Department
  • Completed Degree level education including relevant Emergency Care modules in Admission and Trauma
  • Completion of National Curriculum and Competency Framework in Emergency Nursing Level 1
  • Completion of Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS)
  • Completion of Adult Immediate Life Support (ALS)
Desirable criteria
  • Minor injuries course
  • Leadership and Management Qualification
  • Study at Masters level
  • NVQ assessor
  • Completion of Level 2 Emergency Nursing Competency Framework
  • Completion of Advanced clinical courses including EPLS, ALS, ATLS
