University Hospital Sussex NHS Foundation Trust prides itself on providing comprehensive linen cover for wards and departments.

All items of linen are delivered at various times to ensure enough clean linen is available for our patients needs. Therefore delivering patient first.

Main duties of the job

To ensure that the Linen services team carry out their Linen duties following departmental and Trust policies. 

Duties to include supervision of teams and to manage annual leave and sickness. To communicate with all users of the services on a regular basis to ensure the service specifications are being delivered to agreed standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Communications and Relationship skills

  • Maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Provide effective communication and to support and facilitate all types of meetings which have relevance to the operation of the department
  • To aid Hospital staff, visitors and patients when faced with difficult situations caused by third parties, following Trust policies and procedures.
  • To be able to communicate sensitive issues when dealing with the deceased family using tact and respect.
  • Guide and direct visitors and deal with telephone calls in a helpful and friendly manner, taking written notes of any relevant information
  • To investigate and resolve complaints speedily and effectively, keeping a positive image of the department even when feedback is less than positive.
  • Take a leading role in any departmental Information Technology initiatives.
  • Provide advice and support to the Linen team.

Qualification and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of supervising a Linen service.
  • Level NVQ 3 in a management discipline or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in the role of a Linen Assistant or, equivalent front line service.
