Job overview
We are looking for a motivated Band 6 Orthopaedic Specialist Physiotherapist with acute hospital experience to join our Orthopaedic Physiotherapy team at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester.
The post will involve working closely with therapy, nursing and medical colleagues to provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients admitted under trauma and elective orthopaedics.
There is an expectation for out of hours working including weekend and twilight services as necessary. It is currently a Mon-Fri service with self-rostered out-of-hours shifts.
Informal visits are encouraged.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for an innovative and creative Physiotherapist who is passionate about Orthopaedic Physiotherapy.
The orthopaedic therapy team is supportive and highly experienced. As a Band 6 you will have the opportunity to have joint clinical and non-clinical supervision on a regular basis. You will work with a strong cohort of peer band 6's and supported by skilled and experienced support workers. You will have the opportunity to develop band 5 Physiotherapists and Students.
We are a research active department and are driven to providing an evidence based approach for our patients. We have strong links to the Trust’s Research and Innovation Committee and local HEIs. We are continuing to develop and support local clinical research activity and provide support for those interested in developing clinical academic careers.
Chichester is a beautiful historic city situated adjacent to the South Downs National Park, the sea and with excellent transport links to London and across Southern England. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide advanced assessment and treatment for a range of highly complex patients within the orthopaedic patient services.
- To supervise, teach and appraise recently qualified physiotherapists, technicians, assistants, students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- To support the team lead with operational management.
- To participate in CPD, IST, audit and evidence based projects which may include making recommendations for change in practice.
- To participate in the development, planning and evaluation of Orthopaedic services across the Trust.
- To participate in implementation of policy and changes in own clinical area, and to set and monitor standards of practice.
- To participate in the out of hours Orthopaedic services.
- To participate in respiratory on call and weekend service

Qualification/ Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of Physiotherapy Degree (BSc or MSc equivalent).
- Documented evidence of self-development and relevant CPD
Desirable criteria
- Member of CSP / Interest group
- Evidence of Post-graduate education such as post grad Diploma/ MSc modules.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Have completed at least one band 5 rotation in both Trauma & Elective Orthopaedics including short stay/day surgery
- Effective communication within MDT
- Proven clinical skills in speciality
- Ability to manage a busy and complex caseload, and complete clinical and non-clinical duties.
- Experience of appraising and supervising less experienced staff
- Experience of working in Orthopaedic weekend services
- Respiratory On call competent
Desirable criteria
- Previous band 6 experience in speciality
- Student supervision
- Previous experience in service development projects
