Job overview

To provide a high-quality clinical pharmacy service to the ophthalmology department in conjunction with specialist pharmacists.

The role involves provide a framework for the safe, efficient and cost effective use of drugs by the team, by the provision of education and training, procedures, policies and guidelines, drug usage information, and clinical audit. 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Pharmacy Technician to provide a consistently highly specialist pharmaceutical service for patients seen within the Ophthalmology team at UHSx in line with Trust and National standards.

You will:

  • Deliver a high quality, safe and effective pharmacy service, actively participating in the delivery of  services to all areas of the department. 
  • Support the specialised ophthalmology ensuring that medications are provided in a timely fashion with minimal wastage and improved cost effectiveness.  
  • Develop, lead and contribute on service development projects and to drive thservice forward, including but not limited to biosimilar switching and formulation switching.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a new role for the Trust, developed to strengthen specialist pharmacy technician roles and governance within the field of Ophthalmology.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician
  • NVQ3 or BTEC level 3 or equivalent
  • GPhC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within field of Ophthalmology

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate ability of autonomous working
  • Experience in conducting and reporting audits
  • Motivated and enthusiastic for role
Desirable criteria
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience managing high cost drugs
