Job overview

Speciality Doctor: Frailty (Care of the Elderly)

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Speciality Doctor as soon as possible for a 12 month fixed term initially to join an enthusiastic forward-looking Medical team at the Conquest Hospital site with potential for cross site working at Eastbourne General Hospital.

The Department of Frailty (Care of the Elderly) currently comprises three complex care wards and intermediate care and nurse-led wards. These are in close proximity to the department’s office accommodation and out-patient department. There are good multidisciplinary links.

The Department of Frailty is dedicated to providing a seamless service to Older People and is working towards the achievement of goals and recommendations

The post is a Speciality Doctor post in Care of the Elderly and will be part of a team of Consultant, Middle Grade, FY2/CT and FY1 grades.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will work closely with the medical and nursing teams on all the wards as well as CCU, Path Lab and Radiology Department. The post holder will support the junior team in attending both emergency and elective admissions, treat ward patients in consultation with senior staff, review ward patients daily, maintain progress notes, attend resuscitation training and participate as a member of the cardiac arrest team.

These posts are included in the rotation through the local intermediate care rehabilitation unit and provides excellent experience of the growing care in the community agenda. The Post holder will also be expected to effectively communicate with patients and relatives and respond to any queries or complaints where applicable.

Qualification, Higher Qualifications & Registration

  • MB BS or equivalent
  • Full Registration with GMC with a licence to practice

  • MD or equivalent

Training & experience

  • Wide experience in all aspects of General (Internal) Medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in other relevant medical specialities

Administration & Management

  • Evidence of participation in staff management
  • Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal
