NHS AfC: Band 3
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust provides NHS hospital and community services throughout East Sussex. We provide our services at two district general hospitals, Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital, community hospitals in Bexhill, Crowborough, Lewes, Rye and Uckfield and a number of clinics and health centres, GP surgeries, schools and in people’s homes.
The Trust is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to the improving working lives of all our staff. A wide range of staff benefits are available to staff and these include: staff development, pension scheme, on-site nurseries within the acute hospitals, auto-enrolment to our staff bank ( Temporary Workforce Service ), staff restaurants and on-site accommodation.
ESHT is committed to offering new employees an apprenticeship programme of study to support their role. Please ask when you apply/at interview if you are keen to undertake a programme and we can check if there is a suitable one available to match your role (the opportunities available are changing all the time, there may not be something for you at the time of your appointment but a programme may be written over the coming months which suits you). Apprenticeships are available at level 2 (GCSE equivalent) right up to Degree or Masters level so don’t forget to check with us.
Doctors Assistants are a new NHS role recently piloted at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. Following the success of the pilot, the Medicine Division are now pleased to be able to recruit into 2 more permanent full time posts. There is one post for Acute Medicine in Conquest Hospital and one post for Acute Medicine in Eastbourne District General Hospital.
This is a Band 3 role open to staff from a Healthcare Assistant background. The role is designed to assist Doctors with the routine aspects of their work that can be delegated, such as carrying out some clinical procedures, completing paperwork, filing results, assessing patients using pro-formas, and communicating with patients, relatives and other staff. This will allow medical staff to concentrate on more complex patient care. The role will be based on the wards, principally helping the junior doctors with their work. National audits indicate that Junior Doctors have an increasing workload with a lot of both clinical and administrative duties that could be undertaken by other clinical support staff.
To support the work load we are looking for established and dynamic individuals from a clinical support background to undertake these roles. Applicants should be keen, adaptable, and able to think on their feet, and possess good writing, computer and communication skills. Applicants should also be willing to accept the challenge of a new role whilst being aware of patient safety and the limits of their own competence.
