Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Speech and Language Therapy team as an Administrator based at Centenary House, Eastbourne. 

 

 Responsibilities include data entry, general administration work, updating the appointments system, and providing excellent customer care.

The post holder will receive incoming telephone calls from patients, carers, GPs, staff, other healthcare professionals, and external organisations, taking appropriate action which may involve discussing matters with other team members.

We are seeking candidates who possess a strong willingness to learn, relish challenges, and exhibit the ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team. Commitment to improving patient services and excellent communication skills are essential.

You will work alongside clinical colleagues to ensure that the Speech and Language Therapy team flows smoothly, helping maintain an efficient and effective administration service.

Main duties of the job

The role involves supporting the Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) working in East Sussex Healthcare Trust: 

 

  • To provide an efficient administrative service to the Speech and Language Therapy teams 
  • To manage defined workload to promote the smoother running of the community SLT team
  • To use own initiative, working autonomously, and to take guidance from the Head of Service and Operational Support Officer and members of the wider SALT team as appropriate.
  • To undertake H&S responsibilities as required 
  • To support administrative projects and service developments
  • To support the induction process of new members of staff
  • To signpost service users who contact the office.  The postholder will be required to have a clear understanding of the role of the SLT.  
  • To act as ‘secretary’ for meetings as appropriate, taking minutes, diary planning etc.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Recognised computer/typing qualifications e.g RSA III, NVQ 3 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL full licence

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous secretarial experience with own responsibility
  • Experience of computerised record systems)
  • Communicating effectively with a variety of professionals and outside agencies
  • Dealing with challenging situations e.g dissatisfied patients/carers and complex queries from other professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Working as a secretary/administrator within NHS
  • Experience of communicating with people with communication disorders
