Job overview

We are excited to offer this new post, based between the  two acute ESHT  hospital sites – Eastbourne DGH and The Conquest, Hastings to provide In-Patient cover as part of the NG19 guidance to meet the target of all Patients with Diabetes having a foot screen within 24 hours of admission.

As part of this role you will undertake the initial diabetic foot checks on inpatients and then refer the patients who require further podiatric care to the Band 7 In-Patient Diabetes Podiatrist for review. You will be working alongside our Band 8a At Risk Consultant, band 7 Diabetes Lead and the At Risk foot team as well as the professionals involved in the holistic care of the patient during their hospital stay, and assisting with care plans & further referrals upon discharge. You will be an excellent communicator, able to work independently and in a team, as well as being organised and confident.

 

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited from motivated individuals who are keen to begin an exciting career in Podiatry.  As a podiatry assistant you will be undertaking specific support work to aid in the podiatry treatment of clients. To work as directed by the podiatrist, reporting back on client progress, and informing the podiatrist of any problems. Assisting the Podiatrists with complex cases that requires two people to treat in both a clinical acute and community setting. The post holder will be delegated a wider range of tasks to assist the team in day to day clinical and administration tasks

 

You will be required to work in our acute hospital sites as well as our community clinics in the wider community health services.  Car driver is therefore essential.  Your work will involve working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary Podiatry team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE grade 4 or GCE C and above
  • Qualified to NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 functional skills or health care support worker apprenticeship
  • Level 3 apprenticeship for example senior health care support worker or similar
  • Essential induction training and experience – care certificate or equivalent

Experience
