Job overview

Eastbourne Theatres are looking to recruit a Registered Nurse and/or Operating Department Practitioner to join our theatre teams as a Scrub Practitioner.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, dynamic and caring individual who is able to work within a challenging theatre environment delivering a high standard of safe care and effective practice.  

Theatres cover a wide range of specialities including  General Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Breast, ENT, Max Fax, and provide 24 hour emergency cover.

This post is predominantly envisaged to be in the General Surgery and ENT team and will include some unsociable hours.

Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, maturity, reliability, flexibility and be highly motivated individuals seeking a challenge who will thrive in a busy environment. 

You must be committed to cooperative team working at all times.  

The theatre department is committed to offering a first rate service and supporting staff development. 

We have a dedicated full time practice educator who will provide support and continued professional development with opportunities to enhance your experience.  

Previous theatre experience is desirable.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse or Registered Operating Department Practitioner
  • Evidence of relevant CPD
  • Theatre Practitioners must be registered with the Governing Body
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards Mentorship and CPD at degree level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Previous experience of working as part of a team

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as part of a Multi-disciplinary Team.
  • Able to work effectively in stressful situations where the work pattern is unpredictable, highly distressing and be able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time
  • Highly developed psychomotor skills, to manipulate delicate, specialist equipment and instrumentation
  • Information technology skills
  • Able to plan and organise own workload and supervise students/learners and assistant theatre practitioners
Desirable criteria
  • Able to lead the Multi-disciplinary Team in the absence of more senior staff
