Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist band 6 Occupational Therapist to work as part of a specialised Stroke rotation, working in the Acute, Community and Intermediate Care settings.

There have been significant developments within our stroke speciality rotation, where Occupational Therapy is taking a leading role. The team have created and lead therapy music groups, along with a brunch rehabilitation group. Further rehabilitation groups, in conjunction with other Allied Health Profession colleagues are being launched to increase the rehabilitation offer to our stroke patients.

As part of your role, there will also be the opportunity to lead on one of the Quality Improvement projects across the stroke pathway to develop our stroke service further, for which you will be supported by both the Occupational Therapy team leads and our Advanced Clinical Practitioner.

You will also have the opportunity to gain experience by working closely within a broad multi-disciplinary team, including an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language, Dieticians and Specialist Stroke nurses, all of whom provide a high level of rehabilitation to patients following stroke throughout their journey from the acute to community rehabilitation settings.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist Occupational Therapy Service to Stroke patients as delegated and directed by the Stroke Team Leads.

To be responsible for a delegated caseload of patients, to assess patient needs, plan intervention and evaluate patient care within objectives, protocols and procedures of the service.

To promote integrated, multidisciplinary working practices that supports a seamless transition of care.

To support the Team Lead OT, Advanced Clinical Practitioner  in Stroke Rehab, Professional Lead OT and Service Manager with service development, helping to implement policy and policy changes and to set and monitor standards of practice.

To delegate work to and assist in the supervision of band 5 OT, OT apprentice and OT support staff, providing training as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A regular in-service training programme is offered throughout your specialised rotations, along with regular wellbeing and supervision sessions. There will also be the opportunity to attend and engage with the Stroke Community of Practice, which has both internal and external speakers presenting topics of interest for clinicians throughout the stroke pathway. This will also provide an excellent networking opportunity for you.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Current registration with HCPC.
  • Postgraduate qualification or evidence of relevant post-qualification professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist postgraduate qualification
  • Practice Placement Education Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant rotational experience
  • Experience in Acute setting
  • Experience of Neurological conditions
