We have an exciting opportunity for 2 part-time Occupational Therapy Assistants to join our  Therapy Team  at Sussex Rehabilitation Centre, Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. 

SRC has 39 beds for those with neurological conditions needing rehabilitation. You will be working alongside both junior and very experienced therapists.

We are looking for  passionate, creative and motivated people who have  excellent communication, time management and  organisational skills required to work in a busy team.

Main duties of the job

    • To apply, under the supervision of a registered occupational therapist, technical and creative skills in the provision of a flexible, patient centred programme of Occupational Therapy assessments and treatments. 

    • To work effectively as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in providing a programme of Occupational Therapy assessments and treatments for a selected caseload of patients.

    • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Good general education including English and Mathematics
  • • Relevant theoretical and practical training to NVQ III level or equivalent e.g. departmental training or courses on topics relevant to the post
Desirable criteria
  • • Related academic qualifications
  • • Up to date manual handling training

Knowledge, experience & skills

Essential criteria
  • • Experience working in NHS health or social care or be able to demonstrate transferable skills
  • • Knowledge of roles of other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • • Well -developed observation skills and the ability to attend to detail
  • • Experience of working under own initiative
  • • Good communication, verbal and written
  • Experience working as an Occupational Therapy assistant or other relevant role
Desirable criteria
  • • Proven competency training in fitting and assessing for daily living equipment and carrying out activity of daily living assessments, basic mobility, running groups and providing individual exercise programmes
  • • Experience of interviewing/information gathering

Specific Requirements

Essential criteria
  • • Good time management including punctuality and ability to prioritise caseload
  • • Ability to work flexibly by using own initiative, under the guidance of the lead professional
  • • Physically able to carry out a job that requires taking weight in the therapeutic handling of patients
  • Ability to develop effective working and therapeutic relationships
  • An understanding of disability and social issues and the impact on people’s functional ability
