Job overview

This is mainly an administrative post. The post holder will be based in the research office at The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, but may rarely be required to support researchers working in other areas of UHS NHS Trust.

 

The Research Department oversees the management of a diverse portfolio of clinical trials. The post holder will primarily have responsibility for the collection, collation and transcription of clinical data generated in the trials. This will be via a combination of processes but primarily using databases and electronic systems, including administrative tasks to support clinical trial progress.

Main duties of the job

 

·   Accurate completion of electronic and paper clinical trial case  report forms for patients in clinical trials. 

·  Assist research nurses and doctors in the resolution and management of trial data queries.

·     Collate detailed medical history information regarding patients that are enrolled into clinical trials.

·     Assist in the maintenance of clinical trial databases.

·     Request case notes, for the updating of clinical trial records or for external monitoring.

·     Provide general administrative support to the research teams, and assist with clerical duties associated with research activity. 

·  Attend and contribute to meetings regarding the clinical trial portfolio.

·   Attend and contribute to clinical trial site imitation sessions and complete specific training relevant to the role as required by trial sponsors.

·   Ensure the retention and organisation of essential clinical trial documentation in accordance with ICH/GCP (Good Clinical Practice) for Clinical Trials.

·     Maintain up to date versions of trial protocols, patient information sheets and consent forms in clinics where appropriate.

·  Assist the research teams in screening for potentially eligible patients, where appropriate.

·       Assist in sending local clinical data such as imaging results, UHS radiology data and related trial samples for trial central review.

·    Retrieve test results from NHS Trust IT systems.

  • Ensure that all communication, electronic or verbal is done so with the protection of patient confidentiality in mind. 
  • Answer telephone and email enquiries in an efficient manner; referring to appropriate person within the department, forwarding messages in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the research team and colleagues across the organisation.
  • Act professionally when making direct contact with referring institutions and General Practitioners where appropriate to retrieve source data.
  • If undertaking reception duties, be aware of differing patient needs when communicating.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Educated to A’ level or similar level demonstrated through experience
  • Experience of working in the NHS, or in a clinical environment
  • Knowledge of medical records, Data Protection and Confidentiality issues
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks, including carrying document boxes and equipment
Desirable criteria
  • ICH GCP Certificate
