Job overview

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a driver to join their Transport Department working amongst a team of drivers.

The role requirements are based on a 'courier style' service to the healthcare establishments in and around Sussex ensuring our communities are enabled to receive the treatment and resources they need. Predominantly based at Royal Sussex County Hospital with occasional working across the Trust to support the service as and when required.

Main duties of the job

Courier duties include multiple delivery and collections of pathology, pharmacy, medical records, surgical instruments and replenishment of GP Surgery items across Sussex.

All drivers are required to carry out electronic vehicle checks and complete necessary paperwork on a daily basis. General maintenance and daily cleaning tasks in line with all Infection Control Policy is compulsory on each shift you work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Driver required to support the busy hospital ‘in-house’ transport service operating from Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton) and Princess Royal Hospital (Haywards Heath).
  • Courier duties include multiple delivery and collections of pathology, pharmacy, medical records, pharmaceuticals and sterile services throughout East Sussex and West Sussex. All drivers are required to carry out electronic vehicle checks and complete necessary paperwork on a daily basis. General maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles is also compulsory on each shift you work.

Communication

  • The post holder will be required to work amongst a small team of drivers but predominantly alone. You will be responsible for reporting all vehicle defects to the relevant persons. You will come into contact with Trust staff, external stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Vehicle safety and maintenance checks are key to the daily driving role. It is crucial to report any maintenance/defects/damage immediately.
