An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Nurse to join our Team at University Hospital Sussex NHS Foundations Trust in Worthing Hospital who provide outstanding care for patients with cancer. We are a friendly cohesive team and require a focused, committed, enthusiastic individual. 

You must be a motivated individual with a flexible approach to work and will be a vital part of the SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) team in helping to deliver high level services to patients with cancer.

Main duties of the job

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our friendly team. The Amberley Unit provides outpatient services for haematology and oncology patients including systemic anti-cancer treatments and supportive therapies. 

The successful applicant needs to have had experience in haematology/oncology and have a recognised SACT administration training qualification, or willing to train. 

The unit has a dedicated clinical practice educator providing opportunity for staff to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to progress in this rapidly expanding and diverse specialty.  

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The delivery of Systemic Anti-cancer Treatments; chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy with a recognised SACT passport/qualification. 
  • Deliver support treatments: blood/platelet, IV Iron, IVIG, CVAD care and some medical treatments for non-cancer patients. 
  • Looking after the psychological and holistic needs of the patients during their treatment, with the support of the oncology/haematology teams, Macmillian support, psychological therapies, volunteers etc. 
  • Working closely with the MDT; Consultants, CNS's, pharmacy, dieticians, support workers,  Schedulers, EOLC

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Significant and current experience in an acute hospital in the NHS (at least 12 months)
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship
  • SACT qualification
  • Experience working in haematology/oncology

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC Registration

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • IV, Cannulation and venepuncture competency
Desirable criteria
  • Training in immediate life support (ILS)
  • Current competency in the administration of blood products

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to empathise, support and provide reassurance in difficult situations
  • Able to demonstrate ability to liaise with MDT and escalate appropriately
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in delivery pre SACT patient information sessions
  • Experience in handling telephone triage
  • Demonstrates skill in handling bad news situations
  • Knowledge and experience of NHS IT systems/applications.

  • Experience with Chemocare prescribing system
