University Hospitals Sussex (UHSx) places immense value on its cancer pharmacy team, which has steadily grown in both strength and size over the years. We are delighted to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Lead Pharmacist Cancer Services-Oncology to join our well-established team of dedicated professionals at Worthing Hospital
The chemotherapy production units at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust West provides around 2000 chemotherapy doses to patients at Worthing and St Richard's Hospitals per month. We have 2 busy units, led by a great pharmacy team who provide a safe, efficient and effective service to Cancer Services and other teams within the Trust
Our team comprises of Pharmacists, technicians, assistants and a senior manufacturing technician apprentice providing a chemotherapy, monoclonal antibody, immunotherapy and total parenteral nutrition service within Worthing and Chichester.
This is an exhilarating phase for our cancer pharmacy service, as we aspire to expand our pharmacy prescribing team and provide even more patient-facing services. As part of this role, you will play a crucial role in our oncology service, collaborating closely with medical and nursing teams.
Band 7-8a progression would be considered depending on level of experience.
Main duties of the job
As part of this team you will be able to work with a variety of people providing an outstanding service to the Trust ensuring the safe and efficient provision of chemotherapy.
The successful post holder must have previous oncology experience, have experience of electronic prescribing systems and have chemotherapy screening skills. and understand the complexities of delivering a pharmacy cancer service across the Trust. They must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) They will also have excellent organisational, analytical and communications skills.
To provide oncology expertise to the pharmacy team and wider at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust .
To act as a lead pharmacist for oversight and resolution of professional and operational issues arising day to day, providing highly specialist pharmaceutical advice.
To provide delivery of a clinical pharmacy service to oncology developing and strengthening your skills and knowledge.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Responsible for the provision of an oncology service to the staff of UHSussex West pharmacy department and cancer services.
Specific responsibilities include:
- To embed the role within MDT and maintain a great relationship with clinical teams
- If an NMP to undertake clinics within oncology
- Take part in chemotherapy chats prior to first cycle
- Clinically screen chemotherapy prescriptions on Chemocare
- Provide expert oncology advice
- Provide financial reports to cancer services

Experience and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Degree in Pharmacy at a British School of Pharmacy, or recognised equivalent
- A UK registered pharmacist (Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council - Great Britain) with significant experience on the register, working in hospital pharmacy.
- A post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescriber
- Member of specialist interest groups e.g., BOPA (British Oncology Pharmacy Association).

- Experience of working with different healthcare professions and managers across the wider healthcare economy
- Excellent written and verbal skills for communicating with pharmacy team members, public and other healthcare professionals.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in tutoring a student studying for a post graduate qualification.
Specific Requirements
Essential criteria
- Experience in carrying out Medicines Information queries, providing both verbal and written specialist advice.
- Ability to analyse drug charts and patient information in a specialist field, providing advice where information is lacking, and medical opinion differs.
Freedom to Act
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing unpredictable work patterns, and to effectively manage situations where concentration on prescription reviews, policy documents, national guidance is frequently interrupted for advice.
Desirable criteria
- Can demonstrate an understanding of the key stakeholders the post is likely to be supporting and how they will be expected to support them.
