Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our established community respiratory service, including: pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory outpatient physiotherapy, home oxygen and respiratory nursing. The successful candidate will work with experienced respiratory clinicians to provide high quality, personalised care to the people of Scarborough, Ryedale and Whitby.

  • Varied and rewarding role
  • Chance to develop specialist clinical skills
  • Involvement with specialist professional respiratory networks
  • Potential to influence and drive service improvements at delivery level
  • Continuing Professional Development Opportunities; in-house and external

We are looking for a knowledgeable Physiotherapist, experienced in assessing and managing complex patients with a range of conditions, such as COPD, bronchiectasis, asthma and pulmonary fibrosis to join our multi-disciplinary team. You should be able to work flexibly, as part of a team, to meet the needs of the service and have your own vehicle for travel to various community locations throughout the working day.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be passionate about community healthcare provision and comfortable travelling and working alone including in clinics settings and patients' own homes.

Working pattern and base can be discussed.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a specialist service to respiratory patients, primarily delivered via pulmonary rehabilitation and outpatient physiotherapy.

PR is high on the agenda of national priorities and is undergoing review and investment, including audit and accreditation. The successful candidate will be instrumental in planning and delivering education and exercise classes, working collaboratively with the team and patients to strive for quality standards and drive innovations in user engagement.

The appointed applicant will be competent in a comprehensive and holistic assessment of complex respiratory patients, including a range of pathologies. A specialised treatment plan is formulated, implemented and evaluated, using advanced clinical reasoning, evidence-based interventions and outcome measures, to meet the individual patient requirements. This may involve referral to other specialist services, provision of appropriate equipment or signposting to outside organisations.

There is the opportunity to develop skills to work alongside the clinical specialist within the home oxygen service contributing to the assessment and review of patients, based on clinical parameters and national guidelines, to support their needs safely and effectively.

You will be required to appropriately delegate duties to other members of the team, such as Band 3/Band 4 Associate Practitioner.
