We are seeking a compassionate, creative and enthusiastic Activity Coordinator to join our multidisciplinary team on an Older Adult acute inpatient ward. 

You will play a vital role in enhancing the wellbeing, dignity and recovery of our patients by planning and delivering a wide range of meaningful therapeutic and recreational activities. 

You must be warm, empathetic, resourceful and a strong communicator, with excellent organisational skills. You must also be reliable, be able to work both independently and as part of a team and have experience working with older people or in  a care/mental health setting. 

Main duties of the job

  • Plan and deliver tailored therapeutic, social and recreational activities to support patients with a range of mental health needs.
  • Promote wellbeing, independence and recovery through meaningful occupation and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to align activities with individual care plan
  • Encourage participation, reduced isolation and support dignity and inclusion in a safe environment
  • Monitor and evaluate activities to ensure they are effective and meaningful

Essential criteria
  • Experience of engaging people in leisure activities.
  • Experience of working with groups of people.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-professional teams
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of engaging people with mental health needs

Skills and Competencies

Essential criteria
  • Will have good interpersonal skills e.g. sensitive, empathic
  • Able to work as an effective member of a team.
  • Able to communicate at a high level, both formally and informally
  • Ability to manage conflict and high expressed emotion in a clinical setting
  • Must be able to work flexibly and work weekends/evening work as required
  • Ability to commute effectively between the Trust bases as needed
  • Adequate IT skills to enable completion of patient care and intervention plans
  • Engage in required Mandatory training to support the role
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrate the level of motivation, skill and competencies to support progression in to the role.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Certificate in Mental Health or relevant NVQ III qualification or equivalent experience of developing, providing structured formal leisure activities for individuals/groups
  • Completion of/ Willing to work towards completion of Care Certificate.
  • Awareness of group processes
  • Awareness of the evidence base for individual, or group based activities
  • Awareness of local community services and the provision of leisure and other activities
  • Awareness of the importance of user/carer involvement
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of relevant policy, guidelines and legislation and their application to the clinical and service area e.g., Mental Capacity Act, Mental health Act
