Job overview

Working with our Paediatric Dentistry team, you’ll provide specialist care that supports children and their families to achieve the best possible oral health outcomes. Your work will help children with complex needs feel safe, understood and well cared for.
You’ll join a friendly, supportive service where clinical leadership, collaboration and high‑quality care are central to how we work. You’ll use your specialist skills to assess and treat children referred to the Community Dental Service, while helping shape safe, evidence‑based practice across the team.
What you’ll do:
  • Provide specialist paediatric dental assessments and treatment for children with diverse and complex needs
  • Offer clinical advice and support to colleagues and contribute to service development
  • Lead and support clinical governance activity, including audits and quality improvement
  • Communicate clearly with children, families and professionals in sensitive situations
  • Ensure safe, high‑quality clinical records and uphold professional standards at all times
 

Main duties of the job

What we’re looking for:
  • Registration with the General Dental Council and on the Specialist List for Paediatric Dentistry
  • Experience treating children with additional needs or complex medical histories
  • Confidence managing conscious sedation within competencies
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
  • A commitment to ethical practice, learning and supporting others’ development

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the GDC
  • Must be on a Performer List
  • Current registration on the GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry
Desirable criteria
  • Dental Postgraduate qualification related to Paediatric Dentistry

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-informed practice and guidelines in Paediatric Dentistry
  • Management of children with special needs
  • Knowledge of regulations and legislation pertaining to dentistry
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and financial awareness
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Carestream R4 system

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide range of clinical experience
  • Demonstrable experience of treating children with special needs
  • Previous experience of working in Community Dental Services
  • Experience of working with other agencies
  • Experience of planning and delivering education and supervision
  • Experience of treating patients with conscious sedation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading and managing in relation to governance in Paediatric Dentistry
