Job overview

Applicants are invited to apply for our Senior Clinical Fellow (CESR) position in the Anaesthetics department.

A total of 79 Consultants including 6 Locum Consultants currently work in Theatres, Anaesthetsia and Critical Care. The department also currently employs 1 Associate Specialist, 2 Specialist Grade Anaesthetists, 1 Specialty Doctor and about 40 trainees based in Anaesthesia ranging from CT1-ST7.  8 Senior Clinical Fellows are employed in the anaesthetic department.  There are also trainees from acute medicine, respiratory medicine and emergency medicine who rotate through training in Intensive care and we train both FY1 and FY2 Doctors from our Local Foundation School.

 

There are 11 Anaesthesia Associates working in the department.

 

Secretarial and administrative support to the Department is provided by 5 secretaries in anaesthesia and two based in critical care.

 

Main duties of the job

The duties of this post are equivalent to a senior post-fellowship specialist registrar including out of hours work in anaesthesia and intensive care with local or distant supervision.

The appointee will be based in HUTH and has opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of Anaesthetic specialties and undertake audit/QI project with the support of the department. The elective anaesthetic specialties include but are not limited to airway, head and neck, regional, obstetrics, paediatrics, Neuro, cardiac, vascular, major GI surgery, robotic surgery and plastics.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Fully Registered with GMC with a licence to practice
  • Final FRCA or Equivalent (EDAIC and FCAI are acceptable)
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Qualification in medical Education

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 4 Years post graduate Anaesthesia experience of which minimum of 6 months must be in UK or Republic of Ireland.
  • Clinical competencies at level of post fellowship registrar.
  • ALS Provider
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist fellowship experience in anaesthetic sub-specialities e.g. Regional anaesthesia

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at recognised management courses.

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Formal and informal Experience in training and teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Instructor for life support courses e.g ALS, EPALS, ATLS

Research Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to carry out medical research.
  • Ability to present the findings of their research at a relevant scientific meeting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of carrying out research
