Job overview

Applications are invited for 3 Senior Clinical Fellow Posts in Anaesthesia to commence from August 2026.

Overview of the posts:

The appointment is for a fixed term period of three years, after a probationary period of 6 months.

Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London or equivalent qualification is desirable. EDAIC, Primary FRCA, and FCAI will be considered.

Interested applicants must have minimum of three years anaesthetic experience of which a minimum of 6 months must be in the UK

These are non-training posts and do not have deanery approval for training.

The department at HUTH will provide educational opportunities to support the successful candidate to gather evidence for the portfolio pathway to CESR. (certificate of eligibility for specialist registration) This programme is recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for CESR

The successful candidate will have a named educational supervisor and will be entitled to study leave. There is potential to develop subspecialty interest.

The post does not award a National Training Number. Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if an appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK, sponsorship will be required.

Main duties of the job

The duties of this post are equivalent to a senior post-fellowship specialist registrar including out of hours work in anaesthesia and intensive care with local or distant supervision.

The appointee will be based in HUTH and has opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of Anaesthetic specialties and undertake audit/QI project with the support of the department. The elective anaesthetic specialties include but are not limited to airway, head and neck, regional, obstetrics, paediatrics, Neuro, cardiac, vascular, major GI surgery, robotic surgery and plastics.

Person specification

Qualifications - All Qualifictions must be recognised by the appropriate Royal College and the GMC

Essential criteria
  • Fully Registered with GMC with a licence to practice
  • Primary FRCA, EDAIC or FCAI
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Qualification in medical Education
  • Final FRCA

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 Years post graduate
  • Anaesthesia experience of which minimum of 6 months must be in UK or Republic of Ireland.
  • ALS Provider
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist fellowship experience in anaesthetic sub-specialities e.g. cardiac, neuro or paediatric anaesthesia in the UK or Overseas
  • Clinical competencies at level of post fellowship registrar.

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at recognised management courses.

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Formal and informal Experience in training and teaching
Desirable criteria
  • Instructor for life support courses e.g ALS, EPALS, ATLS

Research Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to carry out medical research.
  • Ability to present the findings of their research at a relevant scientific meeting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of carrying out research
