An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join a friendly and dynamic team within the Cardiothoracic department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with significant acute care experience to join a new team within the department.  

We would like to hear from experienced registered healthcare professionals, and also those who may already hold (or working towards) level 7 modules/qualifications with the ability to APEL in to the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice programme.

The Cardiothoracic department at Castle Hill Hospital is a busy tertiary centre. It provides cardiac and thoracic surgery services to the local population of Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire and provides specialist surgery to a much wider geographical area including North Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire.   

Main duties of the job

Supported by the Trust, you will develop your knowledge and skills in the management of a wide array of both cardiac and thoracic surgery, as well as medical and trauma presentations and develop a high level of autonomy. You will also be required to complete your MSc in Advanced Practice alongside core and specialty competencies relevant to the role. Throughout your training, you will have the opportunity for personal development in the four pillars of advanced practice.

Upon successful completion of the training programme as a Qualified ACP you will progress to AFC Band 8a.

The role will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment within an agreed scope of practice.  You will (under supervision of a senior clinician), assist in the safe assessment, treatment, referral and discharge of patients in their designated directorate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional Registration with either NMC or HCPC with the ability to prescribe
  • First degree 2:2 or above
Desirable criteria
  • Possession of MSc Advanced Practice or working towards
  • Evidence of level 7 study
  • Advanced Resuscitation (ALS)
  • Leadership/management course
  • Evidence of post- reg CPD
  • Non-medical prescribing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working in a registered practitioner role (registered role with the ability to prescribe) within secondary care
  • Evidence of audit experience
  • Evidence of recent teaching to large or small groups
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of mentorship and supervision of staff
  • Evidence of involvement in change management

Skills, Knowledge and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of practical skills and competency in patient management
  • Effective communication both written and verbal Experience of MDT working
  • Evidence of working under own initiative with strong organisational skills and can work to deadlines
  • Time management ~ able to prioritise
  • Able to manage change both personally and leading others
  • Able to use problem solving skills
  • Computer skills (i.e., for radiology, pathology, microbiology ordering as per Trust protocols, utilising patient systems)
  • Ability to motivate self and others
  • Diplomacy and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrate understanding of current developments in the speciality
  • Knowledge of current NHS Advanced practice frameworks
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk assessment/management
